Within its category of homestyle cooking in simple surroundings with local clientele Il Ristoranto Sardo excels.
An old Roman Hosteria, Sardo as the name suggests is owned and run by a lady from Sardinia and the menu reflects this with lots of excellent fish dishes, cooked to perfection and Roman staples such as tripe, carbonara etc.
What I especially liked was the staffs no nonsense honest approach to food; the Dorado some of the best prepared grilled fish I have ever tasted was not local - they were not 100% sure of the actual source but trusted their supplier. The kitchen team were two extremely skilled Romanian women. Anyone who knows their culinary history will look no further than Genoa and Venice's trading routes and the Italian population in Romania dispersed throughout that has influenced the culture there, including food.
Despite its location on the outskirts of Rome, Il Ristoranto Sardo is well worth a visit.
